On this page you will find the regulations of the GERMAN FLAT TRACK CUP: The technical regulations and the class divisions are based on the detailed elaboration that was created with the participation of experienced drivers and representatives of the flat track scene.
Class divisions and technical regulations
General information on class divisions:
A minimum of 6 riders is required for each class to run its own race. If there are fewer than 6 entries, the riders will be integrated into another class and receive individual rankings there. The maximum class size is 18 or 24 riders. Once this limit is reached, the class is full and no further entries are possible. We recommend a general minimum age of 12 years and would like to point out that the minimum age may be adjusted by the organizer for insurance reasons. The cup winners in the Newbie and Rookie classes will move up to the next higher-level class or will no longer be eligible for rankings in their current class. The Newbie winner moves up to Rookie, and the Rookie winner moves up to Classic 89/Vintage or Open Pro/Amateur.
Technical regulations:
Technical minimum requirements:
The following minimum technical requirements apply across all classes. Some classes have additional technical regulations that must be met when participating in a race event in that class (see class classification).
Technical acceptance
- Each motorcycle, helmet, and back protector will be inspected for safety and compliance with the technical regulations.
- The technical inspection will be carried out by the Technical Commissioner under the supervision of the Race Director. In case of discrepancies, the Race Director will make the final decision.
- Motorcycles must comply with the regulations at all times. Failure to comply will result in a warning. If a motorcycle is not modified according to the technical requirements, the Race Director may disqualify or penalize the rider.
- The Race Director may disqualify or penalize a rider whose motorcycle exceeds the maximum permitted noise level on the track or is deemed too loud in the Race Director’s opinion.
1. Motorcycle:
In general, all basically suitable street and enduro motorcycles are suitable
2. Wheels/tires:
- MX, trial, enduro, speedway or similar coarse-tread tires are not
- Flat track, dirt track or comparable tire profiles (rain tires, supermoto)
- Maximum tread depth 8 mm, negative profile proportion max. 50% in longitudinal and transverse direction
3. Brake:
- All parts of the front brake must be removed except for the brake disc/drum (unscrewing the brake lever may be sufficient).
- The rear wheel must have an efficient braking system (exceptions possible in Vintage 75 models).
4. Attachments:
- The footpegs must not be lower than the lowest frame tube.
- The footpegs must be movable (foldable).
- Speedway roll bars are NOT permitted!
- The license plate and all glass components must be removed from the motorcycle, e.g., headlights, turn signals, taillight.
- Sharp-edged or pointed elements that clearly pose an increased risk of injury must be removed from the motorcycle.
- The handlebar ends must be sealed.
- The entry point of the drive chain to the rear sprocket must be covered by a permanently mounted, suitable plate (shark fin).
5. Noise level/exhaust system:
- The permitted noise level depends primarily on the requirements of the specific route where the event takes place.
- It is generally recommended to limit the noise level to a maximum of 112 dB(A) (measured using the 2-meter max method).
6. Engine control and throttle:
- A kill switch must be installed on the motorcycle’s ignition system, connected to the rider’s wrist by a strap.
- The throttle grip must automatically return to its normal operating position at all times.
- The use of methanol or other additives is strictly prohibited.
7. Start numbers:
- A clearly legible race number is mandatory!
- The race number may consist of up to three digits.
- The race number plates should be at least 200 x 200 mm and designed to be easily legible from a distance of 20 meters.
- Each motorcycle must be equipped with at least one race number plate at the front.
- Additionally, two side panels behind the driver (right and left).
8. Driver clothing:
- The requirements for riders’ protective clothing are based on the current DMSB guidelines for speedway racing.
- Helmets must comply with the ECE 22/06 standard from January 1, 2026.
- Motorcycle/protective clothing is mandatory (protectors, boots, gloves, etc.)…even during training!
- Wearing a certified back protector is mandatory. The back protector can be integrated into the lining/suit or worn separately. It must comply with EN1621-2.
- The use of a functioning airbag system is permitted. Its use must be reported to the technical commissioner during the technical inspection. The rider is responsible for the proper use of this device at all times. The neck brace is not compatible with the airbag and is therefore prohibited if the rider is using an airbag.
